Siemon, Cisco and Philips Lighting share their expertise at the Smart Buildings Summit 2017 in Kuwait

June 2017 - Siemon, a leading global network infrastructure specialist, recently joined forces with several key partners to host the Smart Buildings Summit 2017 in Kuwait. The highly successful event kicked off with the slogan "Convergence. The Future of Tomorrow" where it saw speakers from Siemon, Cisco and Philips Lighting discuss the latest developments in intelligent buildings and converged infrastructures, and was supported by Mart Network Solutions and Alghanim Engineering.

Over 70 delegates attended the Smart Buildings Summit 2017 to hear about the ideas and technologies that are making next generation buildings a reality. With an ever-increasing range of internet protocol (IP) enabled applications now available including security, VoIP, lighting, audio-visual, digital signage and HVAC, the immediate challenge is to understand how best to design and implement the right solutions for organisations of all kinds.

Siemon's technical manager for Middle East & India, Narender Vasandani, kicked off the seminar with a look at the company's ConvergeIT intelligent building infrastructure solutions. His presentation identified the benefits of a converged approach against traditional siloed platforms and how a zone based shielded structured cabling infrastructure can facilitate power over Ethernet (PoE) applications, as a part of a digital building. Drawing on Siemon's ConvergeIT expertise, he went on to discuss how cutting edge structured cabling solutions are facilitating an ever-increasing portfolio of IP-enabled applications.

Hani Sweidan, Siemon's business development manager for North Middle East, was then joined on stage by Fatih Simsek, Philips Lighting's marketing manager for Middle East and Turkey, and Rathish Ramachandran, Philips Lighting's segment sales manager, who discussed how IP-enabled lighting is revolutionising the IT environment, covering how connected lighting systems can serve office, industry and retail segments. They also demonstrated how financial savings are achievable with these solutions by presenting the Edge Building in Amsterdam, which is using Philips Lighting's PoE technology. This building servers as a best practice of the most sustainable building in the world with the highest BREEAM rating of 98.36 per cent.

Philips Lighting representatives were followed by Ahmed Elghobary, senior systems engineer at Cisco, who discussed how our insatiable appetite for data will result in an exponential rise in the number of connected devices and users and how the Internet of Everything us driving monumental change in technology architectures and further revolutionising the way we live, work and enjoy leisure time.

Smart Buildings Summit 2017 follows Siemon's participation at Cisco Connect UAE, a series of proprietary, in-country live and virtual events held throughout the emerging markets, which took place in Dubai in April. The event addressed current technology business issues, and featured some of the latest technological innovations from Cisco's partners.

'We are delighted with the response to the Smart Buildings Summit 2017 in Kuwait, which highlighted the clear interest there is in intelligent buildings and converged infrastructures,' concluded Prem Rodrigues, Siemon's sales and marketing director for India, Middle East and SAARC and Hani Sweidan. 'Siemon is at the forefront in providing cabling systems that provide a scalable foundation to enable convergence of a building's systems on to a common IP platform, and we are proud to be able to work closely with our technology partners to deliver information that will help to open more doors for our solutions.'
